Hi friend!
Eek, I’m just coming out of a small crash. On Monday a new (very kind!) nurse came to set up my IV drip and it took her a long time to find things and set everything up. The visit took one and a half hours which is way beyond my limits. I could barely walk (the fee metres I can normally walk) by evening and Tuesday morning I was feeling PEM-ish. Most of Tuesday I’ve been lying with my eyes closed listening to calm ambient music and at first I thought I would have to delay sending out this meditation, but I got a bit better by the afternoon. So here it is (luckily I recorded it last week)!
It’s taken me 42 years to accept suffering (somewhat) and move into a space of self-compassion. Coming from the yoga community I always felt like I had to put a positive spin on suffering, or keep it to myself. It was only when I started to truly accept that I too suffer sometimes (a lot of the time with this illness) and that it’s ok to be open and vulnerable that I could move deeper into self-compassion. I would do small check-ins throughout the day to create a space for the suffering and thereby also allow self-compassion — and this is one of those practices. It doesn’t have to take a long time to reconnect, accept, and to remember to be kind to ourselves.
So in today’s meditation we will pause for five minutes and remind ourselves that we are not alone in this suffering and use that energy to direct kindness inwards.
How did it go?
